What I Wanted:

A clock from Anthropologie.

I saw these clocks at the Anthropologie in St. Louis over Easter. I LOVE Anthropologie. If I could redo my entire house in an Anthropologie style i would. We are actually slowly redoing our guest bathroom (it has/had pretty hideous wall paper)

and I told Jim that as a reward for completing the bathroom we could buy all the knobs from Anthropologie...we'll see...
Anyway, you may notice that this clock can be your for $188.00! This strongly encouraged me to find a way to do it myself.

How I made It:

I had actually had the idea of making a clock before and had looked up the mechanism online. The one I bought this time was purchased from Amazon:

This clock comes with an hour, minute, and second hand. My only complaint about this clock mechanism is that while the minute and hour hands are black and of a more formal style the second hand is red, straight, and really long. I decided not to use it.

I went to a local vintage store http://www.mod50s.com/page/page/5952335.htm for the plate.

I went with Lucy after work one day. An older woman who works there offered to watch her while I looked around, but when she tried to hold her carrier she said "Oh! She's healthy! You better just set her down on the floor over here." So, after I left my apparently obese 4 month old  I looked around and found the perfect plate. Now, my biggest concern was how I would get the hole in the clock. Well, I am not going to lie, the plate I found already had a hole in it!

So, with the hole already in the plate all i had to do was put the clock in it. The clock came with visual directions. I had to switch it up as the part that went through the plate was too small for the hole I had to I just switched the order in which you put the clock together. It comes with a little rubber circle that is meant to go behind the plate, but I put it on the front to hold it up.

A New Idea

Perhaps it is the economy or maybe it is the fact that with a baby we don't want to spend money left and right without giving our purchase a second thought first. Baby items, home decorations, gifts - we have become more and more likely to think about things we want to buy and whether or not we couldn't make them ourselves. With all of the information on the internet available to us it is easy to look up how to make almost anything. So here goes.
